Arena and Cesar Cielo decide to pursue different paths
Tolentino, 6 March 2013 - Global swimwear brand Arena has announced that their sponsorship agreement with Brazilian Olympic and world champion Cesar Cielo has come to an end. The freestyle and butterfly sprinter has performed under the three diamond banner since 2009 as one of the leading members of its prestigious Elite Team.
Cielo achieved some of the biggest accomplishments of his career while part of the Arena Elite Team. At the 2009 World Championships in Rome, he won double gold in the freestyle sprint events, breaking the 100m world record (46.91) and the 50m championships record in the process, and ended the year by setting a new world mark (20.91) for 50m freestyle at the Brazilian nationals. Both world records still stand. At the 2011 World Championships in Shanghai, he again won two golds, this time in the freestyle and butterfly dashes, and also picked up the 100m freestyle bronze. His 2012 Olympics in London brought him a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle.
“During his time with Arena, Cesar was one of our true standard-bearers, and played a prominent role in the testing and launching of the revolutionary Powerskin Carbon-Pro swimsuit in 2012,” said Giuseppe Musciacchio, General Manager – Brand Development. “He was both professional and passionate as an athlete and an ambassador, showing his quality in the pool and his emotions on the podium. This has been a great story of partnership and friendship, through the good and the bad times. Now, we want to wish him all the best for the future. Here at Arena he has a lot of friends who will continue to follow his career with interest.”
